Tamil music composer and actor Vijay Antony’s daughter Meera reportedly died on September 19 by suicide. The 16-year-old was reportedly grappling with depression, which led her to take this extreme step. Her mortal remains were taken to a church in Chennai’s Nungambakkam on the morning of September 20 for final rituals, where her mother, Fatima Antony, broke down in tears.
Weeks after the funeral, Fatima Antony has shared that she is “drowning and dying” with her daughter's thoughts and is unable to live without her.
“If I'd known you will live only for 16 years, I would have just kept you very very close to me," she said in a statement on Twitter.
A day after cremating his daughter, Vijay took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his heartbreaking statement.
"All you kind-hearted people, my daughter Meera is very loving and brave. She has now gone to a better and more peaceful place devoid of caste, religion, money, envy, pain, poverty, and vengeance. She is still conversing with me.”
It further read, “I have died along with her. I have started spending time with her now. Whatever good deeds that I will be doing henceforth on behalf of her, will be initiated by her.”
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by local media Thanthi TV, an inconsolable Fatima said, "I carried you in the womb... You could have said a word to me." Her body will be cremated in Chennai’s Kilpauk.

Meera Antony allegedly died by suicide at around 3 am on September 19 at their residence in Chennai’s Alwarpet. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room, after which she was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

He urged people to avoid taking the extreme step at any cost, adding that it is heartbreaking for the children and the family. While talking about suicidal tendencies in children, he said it could be due to "pressure to perform well in academics." He urged parents not to pressurise them by sending them to tuition right after school and giving them some free time to relax, according to Onmanorama.com.
