Manu Sharma, who was convicted in the 1999 Jessica Lal Murder Case with a life sentence, was released from Tihar Jail on Monday, June 1. His release was sanctioned after considering his “good behavior”. After the news broke Vidya Balan who essayed the role of Sabrina Lal in the 2011 film, No One Killed Jessica has reacted to it.
Vidya Balan's reaction
While talking to The Quint she revealed the, “Personally speaking, I don’t think any amount of time for him or for people like him in jail is enough. So that will always play in my mind”. The actress who played the lead role of Jessica’s sister in the film, further stated that “Yes, maybe he has turned a new leaf. I hope he has. I hope he is a reformed person.”

The Kahani actor also went on to add “So that’s all one can hope you know, after spending so much time in jail. That is the point of being in prison, right? That you reform. So let us hope that has happened.”
No One Killed Jessica
The 2011 film No One Killed Jessica was a thriller which was inspired by the Jessica Lal murder case. Raj Kumar Gupta, in this film, highlighted the struggles that Jessicas’s sister Sabrina had to go through, to get justice for her. In the movie, Rani Mukherji plays the role of an investigative journalist whereas Vidya plays the role of Jessica’s sister.

Jessica Lal, a 34-year-old model was working on April 30, 1999, at the Tamarind Court restaurant in South Delhi’s Mehrauli. When she was shot by Manu Sharma after she refused to serve him liquor. Manu Sharma, who is also known as Siddartha Vashishta, is the son of former Haryana Congress leader Venod Sharma.
