A controversial video posted by Audra D Bridges shows how an Asian man on a United Airlines flight was forcibly removed from the plane before takeoff.
The flight was reportedly overbooked, said the spokesperson for United Airlines. After our team looked for volunteers, one customer refused to leave the aircraft voluntarily and law enforcement was asked to come to the gate, said the spokesperson.
The video, posted on social networking site Facebook, shows how three men in security jackets grabbed the passenger, who started screaming. The passenger was dragged by his arms to the front of the plane.
Apparently all passengers were allowed to board the plane, after which a manager came aboard and said that a computer would randomly select people to deplane.
After the incident, United’s CEO Oscar Munoz released a statement saying, “I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers. Our team is moving with a sense of urgency to work with the authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened. We are also reaching out to this passenger to talk directly to him and further address and resolve this situation."
The move sparked a lot of outrage, with many calling for a boycott of United Airlines, and others pointing out how it was an Asian man who was a victim here.
