A woman in Karachi, Pakistan, allegedly ran over and killed two people with her SUV on August 19. However, she was seen smiling and boasting about her influence after the horrific incident, sparking outrage on social media. The reckless driver, identified as Natasha Danish, is reportedly the wife of an influential businessman, Danish Iqbal. According to Dawn, she rammed into several vehicles and pedestrians while attempting to turn her SUV on Karachi’s Karsaz Road. An elderly man and his daughter lost their lives, while at least three others were severely injured.
What Happened?
Natasha Danish was driving her Toyota Land Cruiser when she hit a motorcycle while attempting to turn. Her car then hit two more motorcycles before it overturned and collided with a parked car. She reportedly tried to flee the site but the witnesses present there did not let her escape.
Initial reports stated that Natasha was intoxicated while driving, however, this has not been confirmed. Videos from the immediate aftermath of the accident show her surrounded by police and witnesses while looking remorseless and smiling. The clip has caused outrage online.
In another viral video, Natasha was seen bragging about her influence immediately after the accident. "You don’t know who my father is,” she can be heard screaming at the enraged crowd. According to police investigations, Natasha was driving without a local license at the time of the accident.
The investigation also revealed that Natasha’s car was travelling at an estimated 100 kilometres per hour on a service road with a speed limit of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour, as captured by CCTV footage, according to Pakistan Today. She has been placed under a 14-day judicial remand.
The death of two innocent people has caused massive outrage as the public speculates that Natasha is being shielded from punishment. Her advocate Amir Mansub has claimed that her mental health “was not stable” and that she was “receiving treatment at the Jinnah hospital”.
However, hospital records show she was deemed 'fit' after medical evaluations. She was discharged after doctors stated that no immediate psychiatric intervention was needed. Meanwhile, purportedly AI-generated images of Natasha being released from jail have been circulated, elevating the outrage.
