Victoria Starmer is a former solicitor and the wife of Sir Keir Starmer, who is set to succeed Rishi Sunak as the next UK Prime Minister. With all eyes on the future of the nation's politics, one influential person commands attention, despite their preference for staying behind the scenes. Victoria Starmer has largely maintained a low profile in her husband's political career. However, she has been dominating headlines amid the general elections as she is now the next First Lady of Britain.

Who Is Victoria Starmer?

Other than limited appearances at Keir Starmer's election campaign, Victoria has chosen to stay away from media scrutiny. Yet, she has been the talk of the town lately, as her husband ousted the Indian-origin incumbent Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. She has often been noted as the 'reluctant future First Lady'.

Lady Victoria Starmer née Alexander was born in London in 1973 to an economics lecturer father and a community doctor mother. Victoria Starmer's paternal grandparents were reportedly Polish-Jewish immigrants who migrated to the UK before the Second World War.

Starmer is reportedly also an equestrienne. Her mother was born and raised in Doncaster and her grandmother lived on the edge of the racecourse. “Vic’s mum had horseracing in her blood and Vic loves it, too,” Keir said recently. “She loves flat racing [not jumps because she thinks that’s cruel].”

Starmer completed her schooling at a prestigious all-girls institute in London, called Channing School. She later graduated with degrees in law and sociology from Cardiff University. Four years later, she qualified as a solicitor and worked for Hodge Jones & Allen, a Soho law firm specialising in street crime.

Starmer met Keir in the early 2000s when he was a senior barrister with Doughty Street Chambers and got married in 2007. She then started working in occupational health with the National Health Service. The mom of two teens will reportedly continue in her role even if Keir is elected prime minister.

While many have raised doubts about Victoria's support for her husband, some others say her immense support remains behind the scenes. A Labour Party source told The Standard, "Vic is the yin to his yang. She spends quite a lot of time taking the mickey out of him because he can be so serious!"
