Uttar Pradesh Rape Case: A court in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar has sentenced two men to life imprisonment on account of abducting a college student, raping her, filming the incident and uploading it on the internet.
In August 2015 three men allegedly abducted a college girl in an SUV and kept her at gunpoint in Ghaziabad. Later, they took the girl to an isolated location and sexually assaulted her, filming the whole incident. The men let the girl escape on the condition she stays silent about the incident and takes no action.
Furthermore, the accused did not leave the girl alone even after she stayed silent about the abduction and the rape. They met with her again and asked her to courier a gun. They threatened her of uploading the video if she failed to do so. However, this time the girl found the courage to refuse them and did not act likewise.
After a few days, the victim's sister found the video on the internet, leading her to narrate the assaults to her family. The family thereafter took the step of reporting the case to the local police.
The two men who were in the video were identified and put to trial. The third accused, however, has been absolved of the charges for lack of evidence, Assistant District Government Counsel (ADGC) Dharmendra Jaint said.
'Two main accused, who belonged to the student's village, have been convicted. We will be appealing the case against the third accused again,'' Jaint added.
According to the order issued by Special Judge Ved Prakash Verma on Tuesday, the two men, along with life imprisonment, were also penalised with Rs.80,000.
