Recently, news of cross-border love stories has become a recurring theme, capturing the attention of many. One such story features Seema Haider, a Pakistani woman who made headlines after secretly crossing borders via Nepal with her four children to reunite with her PUBG-playing beau in India.
However, not all love stories unfold as dramatically as Haider's. Take the case of a 40-year-old American woman who found love on Facebook and embarked on an 8000-kilometer journey from the US with her 11-year-old daughter to marry her Indian sweetheart. Their envisioned dream wedding amidst the beautiful tea gardens of West Bengal's alps took an unexpected turn, transforming their joy into despair.
US Woman's 8,000 Km Journey For Lover In India Ends Up Behind The Bars
An American woman, Naina Kala Paudel (40), made an extraordinary journey from New York to India, spanning over 8000 kilometers, with her daughter Eunice Biswa (11), to marry her Indian sweetheart, Neema Tamang (33). Their love story began on Facebook, where Paudel and Tamang struck up a connection that quickly blossomed into love. Unable to bear the distance between them, Paudel made the bold decision to travel across continents to be with her online beau. However, this dreamy reunion took a sour turn.
Their journey took them from New York to New Delhi on March 19, then onwards to Bagdogra in West Bengal on March 21. From there, they ventured further to the Bhatpara Tea Garden in Kalchini, West Bengal, where Tamang resided. Paudel estimated that they covered a staggering 8000 kilometers to reach Tamang's home.
Amid the serene surroundings of the tea gardens, on April 13, Paudel and Tamang exchanged vows in a local church at Bhatpara. In a bid to ease their journey, Tamang even acquired fake Aadhar Card IDs for Paudel and her daughter from a shop in Hamiltonganj, Alipurduar district. Subsequently, on April 21, the newlyweds went on their honeymoon in Nepal, using the same fabricated IDs.
Paudel, holding a visa until 2029, and her daughter, with a visa expiring in 2025, opted to create fake IDs to cross borders for the sake of love. However, this decision landed them in trouble, leading to their imprisonment and disrupting what could have been a joyful married life.
While cross-border love stories are winning hearts for boundless love, using fake IDs to unite with lovers raises ethical questions and security concerns for India as a nation.
