Wimbledon champion Serena Williams continued her quest for the US Open trophy by defeating American Vania King 6-3, 6-3 in the second round on Thursday. After 17 trips to Flushing Meadows and six US Open titles, World number one Williams added yet another feather in her cap...that of playing and winning a match indoors.

"It was a little different playing with Ashe closed but it still feels great," said Williams. "It's very, very loud out there. It's definitely different because everywhere you play is really quiet. Here it's super loud,” Williams added - reported by India Today.

Williams hit 13 aces, with a total of 38 winners against the 87th-ranked wild card King, and said the troublesome right shoulder that has hindered her since Wimbledon wasn't a problem.
It took Williams 65 minutes to breeze the past her American opponent as she eased into the third round at the Arthur Ashe Stadium which was shut because of persistent rain.

Bothered less about the environment and her shoulder injury though, the 34-year-old having now has 86 victories at Flushing Meadows as she is up for her 306th Grand Slam singles match win. Serena is on the verge of creating history on the hardcourts of Flushing Meadows, seeking a seventh US Open title and a 23rd Grand Slam singles crown which would both be Open Era records.
