Seventh seeds Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova advanced into the third round of the US Open, defeating the American-Japanese pair of Nicole Gibbs and Nao Hibino 6-4, 7-5 on Monday.

The Indo-Czech pair were the first to break which led them to an early 2-0 lead, and then clinched another breakpoint to win the set in just 32 minutes. Though Nicole and Nao played a good game, Mirza and Strycova broke twice in the first set.

The second set was tougher to crack, but they had two breakpoint chances, one more than their opponents. The seventh seeds also won 41 of the 73 points played in the set. From there on it was one way traffic as the Indo-Czech pair won four straight games to clinch the game a book a place in the quarter-finals. The entire match lasted just an hour and 17 minutes.

Sania and Barbora will now face French top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic for a place in the semis. Sania Mirza is now India's last and only representative at the US Open.
