Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza advanced into the second round of the mixed doubles of the US Open with her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig at Flushing Meadows. The pair who clinched their US Open mixed doubles title in 2014, won in straight sets against the US pair of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend 6-4 6-4 in the opening round clash that lasted just 62 minutes at the old Grandstand.

The Indo-Croatian team displayed a clinical performance, creating 11 break points chances and converting three of them, while their opponents could manage just one break point opportunity. With 27 winners to the opponents' 14, the top seeds made 15 unforced errors to 22 of the American team.

The highlight of the match was the win percentage on the first serve. Besides serving five aces, Sania-Dodig won 74 percent of the points on first serve while Townsend and Young won just 59 percent.
In the junior girls’ event, India’s Pranjala Yadlapalli beat American Victoria Emma 6-3 6-2.
Meanwhile, India’s top doubles players Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna crashed out from the US Open men’s doubles competition after losing their respective first round encounters.
