A woman working as a live-in nanny for a millionaire family in New York was given a $2.8 million compensation on September 23 after her boss as caught secretly filming explicit videos of her. In 2021, Kelly Andrade found hundreds of hours of footage of herself in the nude shot using a secret camera in her room. Her boss, Michael Esposito, the 35-year-old owner of a popular restaurant's franchises, had reportedly concealed the camera in a smoke detector.

Andrade had come from Colombia to New York in 2021 to work as an au pair. She was hired by Michael and Danielle Esposito from a placement firm Cultural Care Au Pair to look after their four children. She had been staying in a room in Danielle's parents' house in Totemville since the Esposito house was under renovation.

However, Andrade said she instantly felt suspicious as Michael had been frequently fiddling with the ceiling smoke detector in her room. She told the Manhattan jury that the device “was constantly being repositioned.” Just a few weeks into her new job, she checked the smoke detector herself and found a mini hidden camera inside.

Andrade found "hundreds of recordings,” including many “nude and/or dressing/undressing,” the lawsuit said. Esposito reportedly showed up at the house minutes later. “He seemed very nervous and worried when he arrived to the house,” Andrade said. The au pair pretended to be asleep but Esposito kept banging on her door.

Andrade was worried that Esposito might have a weapon and decided to jump out of the first-floor window. She reportedly injured her knees in the process and spent the night in a bush on the street, according to the New York Post. Andrade showed the footage to the police the next day and Esposito was arrested on March 24, 2021.

In a recent development in the trial, Esposito was found guilty by the jury in a Manhattan court. The businessman was ordered to undergo counselling and satisfy two years of probation. He was ordered to pay Andrade $780,000 in emotional distress damages as well as $2 million in punitive damages — totalling about $2.8 million.

However, Andrade was unhappy with the sentencing as it felt like only a rap on the wrist for her employee, she told the Post. "It’s not enough, considering the whole situation I’ve been through these three years. It’s not enough... I was angry because the damage that he caused me is irreversible," she told the outlet.
