The US First Lady Melania Trump is likely to skip the G7 summit that will take place in Quebec, Canada, this week. A statement issued by the White House, also said that she will also most likely miss the planned June 12 summit in Singapore with North Korea.
Melania made her last public appearance on May 10th with her husband and the US President Donald Trump. On that day, they had welcomed home three Americans who had been held as prisoners in North Korea.
Hosting a reception
The White House also released the news that the President and First Lady will be hosting a reception for the families of service members killed in the line of duty. However, this event will be a private undertaking and press will not be allowed.
Attended the meet last year
Melania attended the G7 meeting last year that took place in Italy. However, this year, she won't be attending it for unspecified reasons. The TOI reported, "She underwent a surgical procedure on May 14 to treat a benign kidney condition and was released from the hospital on May 19."
The Economic Times reported, "The first lady stayed behind when President Donald Trump, and family including his daughters, eldest son and son-in-law went to the Camp David retreat for the weekend. She hasn't made a public appearance since before her five-day hospital stay in mid-May for treatment of a kidney condition the White House only described as benign.
"She will not attend the G7 and there are no plans for her to travel to Singapore at this time," her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said in an email on June 3.
Tweets her response
There were reports and speculations about Melania's absence in the public eye. The media was doing extensive coverage and was hunting for potential reasons behind her absence. She, however, took to Twitter with her response and shut down all speculations.
I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing. Rest assured, I'm here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!
