In a suspected case of honour killing, a father allegedly axed his 18-year-old daughter to death in the Kanpur Dehat region of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Reportedly, he took this extreme step after he found his daughter in her boyfriend’s house. The incident allegedly took place in full public view. The Police have reportedly, arrested the accused father.
The horrific incident occurred at the Khanpanna village under the jurisdiction of the Gajner Police Station.

Run Up To The Murder
The Times of India reported the late 18-year-old girl left her home late Tuesday night and went to her alleged boyfriend’s house. Her boyfriend, 20, operates a small grocery shop in Khanpanna village. Subsequently, the boyfriend and his father informed the girl’s father about her whereabouts. Furthermore, they also told her father about her insistence to live at her boyfriend’s house permanently.
Afterwards, the girl’s father, along with some family members, reportedly marched to the boyfriend’s house with an axe in hand. However, the 18-year-old girl resisted and argued when they asked her to come back home. Consequently, her father, in a rage of fury, allegedly hacked her repeatedly with an axe till she became still. Multiple local bystanders witnessed the heinous act. As per the police, the father also injured his daughter's alleged boyfriend when the youth tried to save the girl.
Police Investigations On
Police officials rushed to the crime scene after local villagers alerted them about the incident. Subsequently, they arrested the accused father and recovered the axe used as a weapon. A forensic team also visited the crime spot.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kanpur Dehat Anup Kumar told Times of India, “It’s a case of honour killing. The statements of villagers were recorded and the man booked. The injured youth is undergoing treatment and district hospital doctors said he is stable. Police has been deployed in the village.”

Similar Past Incidents
In a patriarchal society like ours, the incidents of alleged honour killings have become commonplace. In 2019, A 17-year-old girl from Ahmednagar was allegedly killed by her father. Reportedly, her father took the step as he disapproved of her friendship with a male college friend.
Similarly, in July 2018, a father strangled his 21-year-old daughter in Daulatpur. Reportedly, the girl wanted to get married to a man from another caste and this angered her father.
