UP’s law and order issues refuse to die down and more so when the cops aren’t maintaining it. Near the capital city of Lucknow, a constable posted in Mainpuri has been caught on camera molesting two girls. The video got widely circulated after which the constable was arrested on Sunday.
The irony is that the girls, who are also sisters, had gone to the Police station to file a complaint against molestation on May 25.
The video shows the constable lying on a cot and touching one of the girls inappropriately. Superintendent of Police Rajesh S voiced a concern over the constable’s behaviour and said that it won’t be tolerated. The investigation into the case has begun and a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been filed.

The constable, identified as Ishwari Prasad, has denied the claim. “I asked them to go home and touched the hand of one of the women. I did not tease them,” the accused man was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

This case comes after the BJP government had begun the anti-Romeo squad in full force. The squad comprised of cops interrogating boys loitering around establishments that had women inside or in public spaces. The main sources of identification for this anti-Romeo squad was the "look on the boy’s face" which has been criticised widely as borderline moral policing.
This is the second case in a month where a molestation video has been caught. The first came from Rampur, again in UP, where 14 men were caught molesting, groping and harassing two women walking on the street. The boys had gone to the limit of posting the video on social media as a badge of honour. This clearly shows how women are treated in the country.
