A pregnant woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and parents-in-law in Muzzafarnagar district recently. The woman, Murshida, was reportedly locked in a room without proper food for five days and thrashed by her husband and parents-in-law regularly. She died after suffering a miscarriage. According to the police, the incident took place in Tawali village of Muzzafarnagar. The 25-year-old woman’s family filed a complaint at the Shahpur police station soon after.
Murshida was married to Mursaleen seven years ago. She was reportedly abused by her in-laws for dowry. In a complaint filed by Murshida’s father Trabuddin, he said that her husband and his parents wanted a car and Rs 5 lakh in cash, reported the Times of India. “She was being harassed since her wedding day seven years ago,” he said.

Meanwhile, local police said that the body of the woman has been sent for post-mortem examination. The autopsy results are awaited. Furthermore, they said that a formal case will be registered once the post-mortem reports arrive, which will verify the exact cause of death.

“Action will be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report. But the investigation has started on and statements are being taken,” Station House Officer (SHO) of the Shahpur police station Dharmendra Singh told TOI.
Murshida’s family is in a state of shock. The 25-year-old’s father Trabuddin told the police, “My daughter called and told me about her condition. She was four months pregnant and brutally beaten. I rushed to her in-laws house and took her to a hospital in Meerut. She died there on Tuesday night.”
