Uttar Pradesh Shocker: A 13-Year-Old Girl Raped, Asha Worker Gives Abortion Pills

UP 13-Year-Old Girl Raped: In Uttar Pradesh, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped four months ago. Reportedly, an Accredited Social Health Activists (Asha) worker, who was a close aid of the accused gave her abortion pills.

On Monday, June 28, three out of the four offenders and the health worker were arrested after the woman got sick.

Reportedly, the girl got pregnant after the incident and her condition deteriorated when the healthcare worker named Sushila gave her abortion pills. This happened on Friday and it is then when the incident came to light. In her statement to the police, the victim said that B.P. Singh, Ram Babu Singh, Raghu Raikwar and Shatrughan Singh had raped her. Sushila was a part of the conspiracy to cover it up.

The SHO of Srinagar police station, Sanjay Sharma claimed that after a case was registered on Sunday, June 27, three of the rapists and the Asha worker were arrested. The police are still looking for the fifth accused. He added that the victim's statement will soon be recorded in court.

UP girl raped, similar instances from past

In Dec 2020, a Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur was allegedly raped by a 25-year-old man. She managed to escape and narrated the incident to her parents. A complaint was then lodged against the accused and he was arrested hours later. The girl was also sent for a medical examination.

In June 2021, a four-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by a villager in of Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district while her family was asleep under the shed of a house to avoid the rain. The 42-year-old accused, identified as Naresh Saroj was arrested after the victim's father lodged a complaint against him. Read a detailed report here.

Zee News cited that according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, 3,065 cases of rape were recorded in Uttar Pradesh alone in 2019.
