Unnao Rape Survivor Discharged, To Stay In Delhi For Security Reasons

The Unnao rape survivor was discharged from AIIMS in Delhi where she was admitted after an accident, authorities announced on Wednesday. The survivor was treated at the hospital, along with her lawyer after a road accident. She was admitted to AIIMS following an accident on July 28. The family is under the CRPF protection as per Supreme Court's direction, Outlook reported.

A day before, the Uttar Pradesh administration stated that the family desires to relocate to Delhi, apprehending peril in their home state. The district judge Dharmesh Sharma instructed that the rape survivor and her family members be provisionally housed in the hostel of the Jay Prakash Narayan Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi, for the following seven days, Times of India reported.

Unnao Rape Survivor and her family to be provided safe accommodation

In a statement filed by the special secretary of the UP state, it was registered that the attorney for the rape survivor and her family, Dharmendra Mishra, had an agreement with the authorities concerning the family's protection. He communicated that they needed to remain in Delhi. The court said that Mishra has told them that he would look for proper accommodation for the victim and her family members. This would ensure that all could move to a new house with necessary security arrangements.

Before the road accident

The woman was allegedly abducted and raped by dismissed BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Unnao. She was a minor then, back in 2017. The news grabbed nationwide attention after the survivor and her family tried to commit suicide outside UP CM's house in 2018. Charges have been fixed against Sengar and co-accused Shashi Singh in the matter. Additionally, Sengar will also be tried for murder charges in the road accident case that happened on July 28. He may have allegedly conspired to kill the survivor along with her lawyer and two aunts when they were driving from Unnao to Rae Bareli. A lorry hit her car, and her aunts died in the collision.
