Here’s what we know of the Unnao Dalit Woman Murder Case:

- The body of the 22-year-old woman, who went missing two months ago on December 8, was discovered on February 10 near an ashram owned by Rajol Singh, the son of a former state politician. The body, wrapped in a blanket and thrown in a septic tank, was discovered decayed.

- The Dalit woman's autopsy confirmed that she had been strangled. According to the post-mortem report, she had been assaulted and that two head injuries had been discovered.

- Reportedly in this case, Rajol Singh, the son of former UP minister Fateh Bahadur Singh, was being questioned. In the beginning, Shashi Shekhar Singh, the Unnao SSP, refuted the claims of inaction. "We've started our investigation the perpetrators will face severe consequences," he said.

- Later, Rajol Singh was arrested and taken to jail. He was interrogated, but no trace of the missing woman could be found. The woman's body was later discovered on Thursday, based on evidence.

- According to reports, when the Sadar Kotwali Police unit arrived on the scene, they dug up the body, which was buried four feet beneath the ground. The woman's family had met with the district magistrate and Unnao SSP earlier in the day.

- Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), denied any ties between his party and Rajol Singh, the son of an ex-Uttar Pradesh minister. On Friday Akhilesh Yadav stated, "The minister died four years ago and his son has nothing to do with the party."

- He on the other hand, has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to thoroughly investigate the alleged murder of a Dalit woman in Unnao. He even slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, tweeting, "This shows what the law and order situation is like under Yogi's government."

- Reacting to the news, another politician Mayawati tweeted, "The recovery of the buried dead body of a Dalit girl in an SP leader's field in Unnao district is very sad and a serious matter. The family had been suspecting the SP leader in the abduction and murder of the girl. The state government should immediately take strict action against the culprits and get justice for the victim's family.”
