Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat opened up about her struggles and how she is grateful for all the challenges she had to face.
She said that she used to always ponder over why destiny would try to devastate her. However, she doesn't feel that way anymore, and has learnt to put her faith in the 'Universe plans'. Vinesh Phogat revealed that the challenges she faced made her 'mentally stronger and more mature.'
Vinesh Phogat was seen as one of the hopeful winners during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. However, she suffered an injury while battling against against China's Sun Yanan during their quarterfinal match. She had subsequently return to India on a stretcher.
"In 2016, what happened was disappointing. I am mentally ready now even if a negative situation comes. I am prepared for anything. I have taken a lot of lessons from my setbacks. I was thinking why this happened with me but then, I realised that the universe always chooses you to be stronger and get back up. This is the law of nature. You have to face ups and downs in life. Whatever I am today is because of God," Vinesh Phogat said during an online interaction with the Sports Authority of India.
Vinesh Phogat Wishes Well For Anshu and Sonam Malik
The 26-year-old wrestler also said that she is eagerly looking forward towards the Tokyo Olympics which will be held this year itself. She said that she has reached 85 per cent in her performance, but hasn't reached the peak yet. She hopes to reach at the peak of her performance as soon as the Olympics get nearer.
Besides that, she appreciated teenage wrestlers Anshu Malik and Sonam Malik who recently qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. She said that she was immensely happy for them.
For now, a total of six wrestlers namely Bajrang Punia, Deepak Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Sonam Malik, Anshu Malik and Vinesh Phogat have been qualified for Tokyo Olympics.
