Hina Nagarajan has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of India’s top liquor company United Spirits Ltd. She will formally take over her new position from July 1 2021 and will succeed Anand Kripalu, the current CEO of the company. Kripalu will step down as MD and CEO and will cease to have board responsibilities as of 30 June 2021, as reported by the Live Mint.

Nagarajan is an alumna of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. At present, she is the managing director of Africa Regional Markets (ARM) at Diageo, which is USL’s parent company. Before joining Diageo, she worked with consumer-packaged goods businesses, holding senior marketing and general management positions at Reckitt Benckiser, Nestle India, and Mary Kay India.
Hina Nagarajan will not be the first woman to lead a spirits company in India but will be the first to head a liquor company as large as USL, report TOI.
In her current role at Diageo, she leads Diageo’s ARM comprising operations in Ghana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, the Indian Ocean, Angola, and several other countries. In her new role, she will report to John Kennedy, the president of Diageo Europe and India.
After Diageo, a British drinks giant took over USL, it became a prominent liquor company in India. USL sells some of the most prominent liquor brands in India such as Bagpiper, Antiquity, McDowell's No 1, Royal Challenge among many others.
