Union Minister Smriti Irani Tests Positive For COVID-19

Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani, has tested positive for COVID-19. Irani confirmed about the same through a tweet on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. As per reports Irani had been campaigning for the upcoming Bihar elections. She is 44 years old.

She wrote, “It is rare for me to search for words while making an announcement; hence here's me keeping it simple - I've tested positive for #COVID and would request those who came in contact with me to get themselves tested at the earliest.”

Till today, the number of cases of Coronavirus in India stands at 7,990,322 while the number of people who succumbed to the virus is as high as 120, 054.

Coronavirus has infected many Parliamentarians till now. Although most of them have recovered. Home Minister Amit Shah, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan were some of the influential male politicians who tested positive for the deadly infectious virus. They have also recovered from the infection. Not many names of women politicians in India came forward who tested positive.

AAP MLA and national spokesperson Atishi Marlena has tested positive for COVID-19 in June. So did Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia and his mother Madhavi Raje Scindia also tested positive. However, Kamal Rani Verma is the only cabinet minister of Uttar Pradesh who died of COVID-19 on August 2. She was the Technical Education Minister in UP cabinet.

Apart from the politicians, an ample number of celebrities of Bollywood have tested positive for novel coronavirus and most of them have recovered. This list includes the Bachchan family- Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aaradhya Bachchan.

Moreover, Anupam Kher’s mother Dulari, brother Raju Kher, Raju’s wife and daughter also confirmed of being COVID-19 positive and soon recovered.
