A woman in the UK faced the worst nightmare of her life when she decided to take an abortion pill crossing the legally allowed limit set by British law.
The 44-year-old woman sought medicine online after she dishonestly informed them about her pregnancy term. The scheme allows women to self-terminate their pregnancies at home for only up to 10 weeks.
UK Woman Prisoned For Taking Abortion Pill
According to CNN, England's Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court announced the woman guilty of going against the legal allowance limit for terminating a pregnancy. The mother of three kids had reportedly taken a pill to induce an abortion at home. She had sought a remote consultation to attain the medication in a 'pills by post' scheme. The scheme, which was introduced during the lockdown, allows people to terminate pregnancies at home itself but only for up to ten weeks. The Court learned that the woman was somewhere around 33 weeks pregnant when she had the pills.
What happened after she took the medication at 32-34 weeks?
It was reported that the woman went into labour five days after she took the pills. An emergency call was made from her home and her child was born during the phone call itself. The paramedics came to their aid but the hospital staff pronounced the child dead.
The post-mortem revealed that the cause of the newborn's death was stillbirth induced by abortion pills.
This incident has led various human rights activists to demand a system that is safe for women irrespective of whether they seek help at home or at medical facilities.
