The Labour Party in the UK have decided to teach boys not to assault by incorporating this teaching into their education. Gender violence has been on the rise since the lockdown. Education here can be key in prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
The leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom, Kier Stammer believes that with consistent education on the subject, VAWG should decrease within a decade in the UK.
He spoke about this new Labour Party mission to various experts committed to feminist causes and to end VAWG.
On hearing of the party's upcoming endeavour, Emily Atack expressed that toxic masculinity and victim blaming are issues that need to be tackled. She added that education with the help of proven experts was the best way to do so.
Atack specifically conveyed the need for experts as tutors in this subject of education as regular teachers despite wanting to coach children on the subject may feel out of their depths to do so.
Additionally, teachers already have a lot on their plate, and adding more might make them overburdened with work.
The Shadow Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper also expressed her opinion on Labour's endeavour to minimise VAWG. Conveying that stronger education is needed on the subject, Copper stressed the need for young boys to be taught how to respect relationships in school. Furthermore, Cooper expressed the need to suppress the violence and abuse against women that social media propagates.
UK Labour Party Plans Lesson For Boys
Men are brought up differently than Women. When young boys grow up to watch their fathers come back home to beat their mothers, it is what they learn.
If young boys were taught instead that such acts of violence are unacceptable, they would learn to question it instead of emulating it. If young boys were asked to cry like girls, we'd have emotionally expressive males instead of toxic masculinity male models.
If they were taught to offer their protection to women instead of exploiting their trust, we'd have a lot more gentlemen than the dwindling number that society offers us today. Women need not have to worry about their safety if society offers good men.
