The 28-year-old man whom Chennai inspector Rajeshwari saved during the floods by carrying on her shoulders has passed away in the hospital where he was undergoing treatment, as per reports on Friday. He was rescued a day ago from a cemetery in TP Chatram where he had fallen unconscious due to ill health.
A stirring video of super cop E Rajeshwari hauling him and walking barefoot in the waterlogged area to get him to a vehicle that would ferry him for medical treatment had gone viral on Thursday. The man she saved was identified as one Udayakumar, who was a member of the staff at the cemetery. No one came to rescue him since he was earlier believed to be dead. When Rajeshwari was alerted, she rushed to the spot and found Udayakumar breathing and lifted him by herself.
Udayakumar breathed his last at the government hospital in Kilpauk he was admitted to, according to Times of India.
Brave Inspector Rajeshwari Recognised For Flood Rescue Efforts
The reaction to Rajeshwari's relief efforts was laudatory, with netizens, journalists, actors, politicians and other public office holders commending her bravado. For her work, she was felicitated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin who met her and recognised her for being "a helping hand of the police for the downtrodden." Read here.

"I gave first aid after which I carried him. An auto came there, we sent him to hospital. I visited the hospital, his mother was there. I assured them to not worry and that the police department will support them," Rajeshwari said after her story went viral on the internet.
