A woman saved the life of an Indian truck driver in the UAE, after she saw him in flames. The 22-year-old woman, Jawahar Saif Al Kumaiti, was driving home after visiting a friend in hospital. She saw two trucks burst into flames. She saved the Indian driver, Harkirit Singh, by dousing the flames with her abaya.
“He was lying down. I went to cover the guy because there were no clothes on him. He looked at me and said, 'I'm dying. I'm afraid to die'," she said
The police and ambulance arrived shortly afterwards, and saved the two truck drivers. Both suffered 40 to 50 per cent burns. Major Tariq Mohamed Al Sharhan, head of the ambulance and rescue section, said they want to honour the woman for her bravery. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will also honour her.
"All thanks and praise to Almighty Allah who gave me the power and courage to act and intervene into the situation at the right time and rescue the man's life," she said.
She also said that when she saw the accident, she was surprised at the amount of innocent bystanders who did not intervene and help the men. Kudos to this brave young lady who risked her own life to help a person in need.
The UAE has been setting a few examples for us. Earlier this year, an Indian citizen working there was fired for sending a sexually-abusive message to journalist Rana Ayyub’s Facebook page. His employer, Alpha Paints, fired him after Ayyub posted a screenshot of his message.
One of the company's employees had complained about 31-year-old Bincylal Balachandran’s post. He had sent an email to the HR manager of the company, Shadi Al Refai, with a screenshot of the abusive message.
