In a case of crime against men, two men hailing from Bangladesh were allegedly raped and assaulted late at night in east Delhi's Shakarpur area by a group of five men. The two Bangladeshi were members of the LGBTQ community in Delhi and met the accused on a dating app for gay men.
The accused along with his four other men allegedly raped and assaulted the two gay men in a park at 11:30 pm in the night as one of the two survivors refused upon getting intimate with the accused man. The three of the accused men are arrested while the two men are still on the loose.
A case has been filed under several Sections of the Indian Penal Code for "voluntarily causing hurt", "voluntarily having carnal intercourse against the order of nature", and "common intent."
Delhi: 2 Bangladeshi Men Raped And Assaulted By 5 Men; 3 Arrested:
Delhi police have arrested three men for allegedly assaulting and raping two Bangladeshi gay men in Delhi. The two men are members of Delhi's LGBTQ community; one was studying in Delhi while the other friend was visiting him from Bangladesh. The two friends met the accused on a dating app for gay men.
Two students, A and B (Names withheld to protect identities) have been living in a flat in Delhi for a while now. 22-year-old A is a gay man from Bangladesh who was studying in Delhi, while his roommate B is from Bihar, India.
A friend of A who also identifies as gay, C came from Bangladesh and moved in with A and B in Delhi.
Meanwhile, A met the accused man X on a dating app for gay men and the two gradually became close.
As per the reports, on October 17, A and C were returning home from the Ramlila fair held in East Delhi's Shakarpur area. Around 11:30 pm, the two on their way back home met X and his other two friends.
X wanted to get intimate with A but he refused and introduced him to C and the five of them (A, C, X and his two friends) went to a nearby park where X and C went to a secluded place in the park.
While two more friends of the accused X entered the park. And after a while, the five men, X and his friends allegedly raped and sexually assaulted A and C in the park.
As A and C returned home, they narrated their ordeal to their third flatmate B who then informed about the crime with his friends to the police.
A case has been filed by the police under several sections of IPC such as "voluntarily having carnal intercourse against the order of nature", "voluntarily causing hurt", and "common intent" against X and the other four men.
The Arrest:
After registering the case, the police formed a team of 20 officers to scour through CCTV footage of over 50 cameras installed in the nearby areas of the case. Several other people in the area who also belonged to the LGBTQ community were questioned by the investigations finding some leads to the accused men.
The investigators arrested three men identified as Devashish Verma (20), Aryan (20), and Surjit (20), while the hunt for two other accused is still ongoing.
