Instagram influencer Nitibha Kaul was called out on social media for using poor people in her latest photoshoot. Netizens questioned if Kaul is paying the less fortunate ones featured on her Instagram or is just using them to get traction on social media.
Flaunting the latest collection Sabyasachi X HM, Kaul is posing with an old woman in one picture and a bunch of men in the next one. In her cation, the influencer wrote, "Recreated THE MOST VIEWED reel on my IG (7.4 Million views 😱) with this beautiful lady who we all called “Amma”. I knew I HAD to capture her beauty and share it with the world (with her permission of course) Hope you guys love these pictures as much as I do."
Twitterati questioned her intentions behind the photoshoot and accused her of using poor people as aesthetics. Many pointed out that this is not the first time that Kaul has engaged in such practices. In many pictures, Kaul is seen posing for the camera with the seemingly disadvantaged lot in the background.
One Twitter user pointed out that the influencer is seen wearing a 10 thousand rupees worth saree and is posing with poor people in the background. The user wrote, "Nitibha Kaul has a million followers and her entire page is full of using poor people as aesthetics."
"Are these people being paid a fair share of her money for collab? They better be."
The audacity of this influencer to wear a 10k saree & use poor people as background objects for it. Nitibha Kaul has a million followers & her entire page is full of using poor people as aesthetics. Are these people being paid a fair share of her money for collab? They better be pic.twitter.com/JB0S1yEA6t

Another user asked what is the concept behind the photoshoot. A user urged social media users to bring the photoshoot under designer Sabyasachi's team so that they can bring Kaul's campaign to an end. Many accused Nitibha Kaul of making "poverty porn" which is an informal term used for content that makes use of poor people in order to fulfil their personal motives.
Here are other tweets calling out Nitibha Kaul on her latest photoshoot:
@NitibhaKaul The reel was most viewed because it was problematic!! You can’t use poverty and underprivileged people as props and for your aesthetic ?? Are you compensating them in money and sponsorship you get with the content you feature them in? JUST STOP OKAY pic.twitter.com/lQt5gaMtmT

Although I like Nitibha Kaul and have talked to her once or twice. But this time you are right. I was thinking to write this in her comment section as not to romanticise poverty. Phir people say kps are poor!!
