If you thought motorsport was a men's sport, think again. TVS Racing on Tuesday signed their first woman rider, Shreya Sunder Iyer, for the Indian National Rally championship. It was a proud moment for the 24 year old Shreya, "Motorsport has always been considered a male-dominated sport, which actually is not true. There are so many women out there riding and driving," she said, reported by Firstpost.

Having trained hard for the national rally championship for the last two weeks. she thinks that India needs to have more women on road, riding - racing. According to her, women riders are few but rising in numbers. Shreya started off riding at the age of 17 and in a span of just 7 years she rode extensively across India including the isolated Suru valley in the Himalayas and also completed a rigorous Southern India biking expedition of 2,000 kilometers in just 6 days. She sees TVS Racing platform as an opportunity to encouraging women to take this sport up as a career.

And she is not the only one.Many more females are breaking the stereotype, amongst them are Alisha Abdullah, who is India's first female national racing champion, as well as Mira Erda, Sneha Sharma, Ria Dabas and Neha Dabas, who race in the JK Tyre Racing Championship in different categories.
