Ratan Tata's demise

Ratan Tata was the nation's most loved industrialist. The titan of Indian industry passed away on October 9 at the age of 86 leaving the nation to mourn the loss of a legendary leader. His life trajectory had inspired millions of Indians. His simplicity and dedication toward animals are fondly remembered. Ratan Tata's developmental or philanthropic endeavours made people around the world love him. 

A Doctor Being Raped And Murdered At Her Workplace 

On August 9, India woke up to the horrific news of a 31-year-old doctor being raped and murdered at her workplace R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The year 2024 is about to end but sadly, India's rape laws are not yet 'strict' enough for the prevention of such cases. The protesters faced harsh opposition from the government and the preparators are still not legally charged! As shocking as the rape case was for the country, the fact that government still couldn't bring out justice for Dr Moumita Debnath is saddening. The year ends with rising concerns for women's safety in India. 

Payal Kapadia Creates History

2024 brought proud moments for the Indian entertainment industry in the global sphere. Indian Filmmaker Payal Kapadia brought laurels to the nation by winning the prestigious Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Kapadia is the first Indian to receive the festival's second-highest honour for her film All We Imagine As Light. She also made history by scoring India's first nomination in the Best Director category at the Golden Globes. 

Baba Siddique's assassination

Baba Ziauddin Siddique's assassination on 12 October 2024 by three preparators in Mumbai was a very shocking incident. Siddique was an influential figure in Mumbai. He was killed when three bullets were fired at him at around 9:30 pm near his son Zeeshan's office. Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was reportedly the mastermind behind the minister's demise.

Ambani-Merchant's Extravagant Wedding

Indian Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's son Anant Ambani married pharmaceutical tycoon Viren Merchant's daughter Radhika Merchant. Their 6-day extravagant wedding was from 12 to 30 July. While this fairytale-to-life wedding became the talk of the town with an approximate expenditure of $1 billion, it also garnered sharp criticisms for "wealth inequality in India." While opinions on their wedding differ, their pre-wedding and wedding functions took over the internet for days.
