TN BJP Leader Shares Abusive FB Post Against Women Journalists

Actor, producer and Senior BJP leader S Ve Shekher recently lashed out at women journalists by sharing a Facebook post that used derogatory remarks against women in news media. Shekher did this after Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit had to apologize to a woman journalist for patting her cheeks during a press conference in Chennai.

This ugly truth has come out through the complaints raised recently. These are the (using a derogatory word) women who have come out to question the Governor. Media people are the cheap, lowly, ugly, vulgar beings of Tamil Nadu.

Shekhar shared a post headlined—“Madurai University, Governor and the Virgin Cheeks of a Girl” which reads that media houses showcase more instances of sexual abuse than universities. It also blatantly said that women reporters and newsreaders only become one after sleeping with the bigwigs in the industry.

“This ugly truth has come out through the complaints raised recently. These are the (using a derogatory word) women who have come out to question the Governor. Media people are the cheap, lowly, ugly, vulgar beings of Tamil Nadu. There are only few exceptions. I respect only them. Otherwise, the whole of TN media is in a regressive path caught in the hands of criminals, rascals, blackmailers,” read the post.

Shekher credited it to its original creator—“From Thirumalai S”. When he realised the magnanimity of his mistake, he told Indian Express, “I met Thirumalai during my visit to US. He told me he is a supporter of (PM Narendra Modi). I didn’t read the post fully before I shared it. I will never abuse anyone. I wanted to delete that post, but Facebook has blocked it. I cannot access my account for the next 24 hours.”

It is unpardonable that a leader from the ruling party shares such a post on his official Facebook account without reading it fully. The post shatters his image fully and shows his real side which is one that is misogynistic and patriarchal. Further the post makes it clear that he shares the thought that women aren’t capable of anything but sleep with men to get to a position. Such ridiculous thoughts reflect a bigger vision of the leaders of the ruling party, one that is quite scary.
