The star of popular TV show Black-ish, Yara Shahidi, has got Michelle Obama to write her a college recommendation letter to four top universities, including Harvard.
17-year-old Shahidi is a Black American Iranian who has teamed up with Michelle Obama on a number of initiatives. The two met last October at Glamour’s International 'Day of the Girl' event. The two women spoke about how important it is to educate girls around the world at the event. Shahidi spoke about Obama in an interview with W magazine.
"She is very amazing and such a supporter, which is something very surreal to say," Shahidi said.
The friendship between Obama and Shahidi is quite unique. Before her AP exams, the former first lady told Shahidi to ‘go get ‘em tiger'.
Shahidi is very socially active. She was outspoken against Trump’s travel ban, and plans to double major in sociology and African American studies while at college. She even founded a mentoring organisation titled Yara’s Club.
Michelle Obama is a big fan of the young actresses show, and has even called it one of her favourite shows.
The actress plans to take a gap year in order to work some more, before starting college.
