These Tribal Women are Taking Up Arms Against Taliban and ISIS

In the remote Darzab district of Jawzjan in Afghanista, tribal women have resorted to taking up arms to fight against the expanding foothold of the Taliban and ISIS in the region.

There are 45 women in the group which is led by 53 year old Zarmina. The group comprises Uzbeks,and Aimaqs- a Persian speaking minority in the Jowzjan province. The photographs of these women have appeared on social media with many around the world lauding the courage they have.

The uprising fist took place in November last year, according to media website Khaama Press. 

Afghan women are are fighting back. In 2014, Reza Gul killed 24 Taliban terrorists after they murdered her son. Her son was a policeman whose checkpost was attacked by the Taliban. Her daughter, Fatima, also helped her mother by preparing bullets.

ISIS is slowly gaining ground in the country. Many reports show that ISIS has been regrouping in Afghanistan after being pushed back from its strongholds of Iraq and Syria.

The Taliban which has been a constant presence in the country, was recently in the news for beheading a young woman because she went into the city for a shopping trip with just her husband.
