Former USA First Lady Michelle Obama is going to host Spotify’s newest exclusive podcast: The Michelle Obama Podcast. The company announced the show on July 16. Furthermore, it is the first podcast to come out of Spotify’s deal with the Obamas’ production company, Higher Ground Productions. The show premieres on July 29th, and new episodes would come out weekly for nine weeks.
Michelle Obama’s new podcast aims to hold candid and personal conversations on subjects like relationships and health. She also expects to have several guests on the series including Craig Robinson, Conan O’Brien and Valerie Jarrett.
“Perhaps most of all, I hope this podcast will certainly help listeners open up new conversations. As a result, they would be hard conversations with the people who matter most to them. That’s how we can build more understanding and also empathy for one another,” Obama said in a statement.

In 2020, Spotify has gained exclusive access to Joe Rogan’s show, Kim Kardashian West’s podcast and the DC Comics universe. Furthermore, Spotify also owns podcast networks Parcast, Gimlet, and The Ringer.
Since leaving office at the start of 2017, the Obamas have ventured into scripted and unscripted content production. They found Higher Ground Productions in 2018. Their ventures include a multi-year deal with Netflix. Last year, they brought the documentary American Factory to Netflix, which consequently won the Oscar for best documentary. In May, Netflix released the documentary Becoming. The documentary followed Obama on the book tour for her memoir with the same name.
“At Spotify we aim to connect listeners with the world's most authentic and compelling voices," said Dawn Ostroff, chief content and advertising business officer at Spotify, in a statement.
