Banerjee's body was found lying in the bedroom, the forensic expert found signs of nose bleeding and vomiting when police broke into her third-floor apartment, according to a report by Times of India. “Primarily there appears to be no foul play. The exact cause of death will be known when the post-mortem report reaches us,” a report by The Telegraph quoted a senior police officer of Lake police station. As per reports, Banerjee did not respond to the doorbell when her domestic help rang. She even did not respond to phone calls in the morning and so the maid informed her neighbours who called the police. Banerjee was living alone in Kolkata’s Jodhpur Park, the domestic help said.
“Like every day her maid had come to work and when she didn’t get any response, she alerted her neighbours and the police were informed. The house was locked from inside. Investigation is on,” said a senior police officer.

According to initial police reports, the body has been sent for post mortem examination. Her body was covered with blood when police arrived at the scene, and a forensic team was called to collect samples from her room. “She was getting her food through app-based delivery platforms for some time now. She used to spend time with her pet dog. Neighbours said she didn’t mix with anyone in the locality. We are trying to find out who would visit the house for any work. Her call details are being scanned to see if she was in any distress and if she had received any food from outside in the last 24 hours,” the police added.
Banerjee was the youngest daughter of late sitarist Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. Before getting into films, she had tried her luck in modelling as well.
