While watching the last ever episode of ‘Girls’ this weekend, I realised why Lena Dunham literally speaks my heart out. She is a class apart, and so different from most of the rich and the famous. She is the modern writer/director/actor who isn’t afraid to speak the truth and portray reality on TV. No, not the ‘reality’ we see on reality TV channels. That’s mostly acting. Ironically.
Women in real life don’t have perfect skinny bodies. Once you look at Lena’s body, you’ll understand what I mean - she is the real woman. She is unapologetically herself.
Many of you may not know who Lena Dunham is; she isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Many of you may like fantasy novels and TV show, like the popular Game of Thrones. However, it is increasingly refreshing to see such raw and real content in a world where fiction and reality don’t really collide anymore. For instance, in her show ‘Girls’ - there is plenty of nudity, swear words, and more - but it is exactly like what it is in real life. Women in real life don’t have perfect skinny bodies. Once you look at Lena’s body, you’ll understand what I mean - she is the real woman. She is unapologetically herself. She isn’t afraid to discuss issues that have troubled her in the past, such as OCD and anxiety. This is something we women need to learn, to be ourselves and not really care about what the other people say. Its much easier for us to do this, at least we aren’t under the spotlight like Lena is!
In this day and age, we need more “real” women - women who take control of their bodies regardless of who body shames them, women who wear their flaws like badge.
Some people may not agree with me, they may think of Lena as just some other TV actress who is trying to be ‘cool’ by baring it all in front of the camera. Yes, she is cool for doing that, but she is also extremely talented. She has a sense of humour that most of us would kill for! And, she definitely is, as she puts it so accurately (on her TV show ‘Girls’) - “the voice of our generation, or at least A voice of our generation”
There are many, many women to be idolised in this life, and Lena is one of them. In this day and age, we need more “real” women - women who take control of their bodies regardless of who body shames them, women who are not afraid to talk about taboo topics, women’s rights, speak their minds, and women who are unapologetically themselves, who wear their flaws like badge.
