Thawar Gehlot daughter dies as COVID-19 rages across the country
Spokespersons for Gehlot's office said the infection was detected two weeks ago. An HR-CT scan showed severe damage to the 44-year-old's lungs, whereafter she was admitted first to a hospital in Ujjain and then to Indore when her condition deteriorated.
The minister reportedly went to Ujjain last Friday to be with his daughter.
In Madhya Pradesh, the COVID-19 situation reflects tension even as vaccinations have opened up for citizens 18 years and above. As of May 3, total confirmed cases in MP, as per government records, are 588368, making it one of the worst-affected states in the country.
In the aftermath of the Kumbh Mela in Uttarakhand, reports suggest approximately 99 percent returnees have tested positive for the virus in what is being deemed administrative negligence and grave oversight.
