In a shocking incident from Thane, Mumbai, a woman allegedly beat her toddler stepson to death. A case against the woman was filed by her spouse and the father of the child who found him severely injured when he came home after work.

The relation between a stepmother and her step-children is always portrayed negatively in the society. They are always shown to have miscommunication, competition, conflicts and disagreement which affects the family ties. Though it is true that a mother's love cannot be replaced by any other, that does not mean a stepmother can't love her stepchildren. And it also does not mean that the biological mothers are always kind. There have been real cases when biological mothers have abused children while their stepmothers brought them out of trauma. It all actually lies in the mindset of a person.

However, brutality has no gender and knows no relations, it can be hidden behind the most innocent faces and come out only when its time. And reported murder case from Maharashtra showed how a stepmother crossed all limits of brutality, bringing alive the worst nightmare of a child and adding an argument in favour of society's stepmother stereotype.

  1. The incident took place on Wednesday, September 28, in the Dombivili town of Thane district in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  2. A 28-year-old woman named Amitadevi reportedly beat her three-year-old stepson brutally and allegedly punched and kicked him, leaving him in a near-death condition.
  3. The child was found severely injured by his father, who rushed him to the nearest local hospital. However, when he reached the hospital, the doctors declared him critical and referred to another hospital.
  4. The child was then moved to a civic hospital in Kalwa. On checking the child, the doctors declared that the child couldn't sustain the severe injuries and was dead on arrival.
  5. A case was registered of accidental death and on investigation, the police learned about the involvement of the stepmother of the child in the case.
  6. The woman was alleged to have beaten the child and an FIR was filed against her at Tilak Nagar police station under the section 302 of Indian Penal Code for murder.
  7. The reason for brutally beating the child is still uncertain and the police is trying to get the woman reveal the motive behind it.
  8. The police had arrested the accused woman and is investigating the possible reasons of the murder and also the mental health of the woman.
