A special Judge V V Virkar passed an order on 17 January. He pronounced the accused woman guilty under provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and slammed a fine of Rs 2,000 on her.
The convicted woman belongs to the Turbhe area of Navi Mumbai township in the Thane district. Special Public Prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale stated in the court that the accused used her Turbhe home for prostitution and pushed women and minor girls into it.
A team of the Navi Mumbai police's anti-human trafficking cell raided the premises in 2018, they found a woman being forced into sex work.
The woman was rescued and the accused women were arrested.
12 witnesses were examined to prove the charges against the accused, as per the report.
The judge said, "the prosecution has successfully proved the charges against the accused, who needs to be convicted."
The other woman accused was given the benefit of doubt and the court acquitted her of all the charges.

However, there are many women in brothels, who are forced into the flesh trade. Despite this, the police raid many times but these women are missed. In India, there are over 8 lakh women sex workers, according to the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), and over 6000 female sex workers go through physical violence, as per the National Crimes Records Bureau Report 2020-21. But numbers on forced prostitution are still vague.
