Protests against sexual violence have erupted not only in Kolkata but also in Badlapur because of the sexual assault of two 4-year-old girls. The Supreme Court has suggested the formulation of a 10-member committee to formulate rules and guidelines for the safety of healthcare workers. Moreover, the Bombay High Court has also suggested a formulation of a committee that should look over the rules and guidelines to school boys about right and wrong behaviour in the schools at the primary level itself. But these measures are too late because the crimes against women have increased to one of the maximum levels with 49 women facing violence in a day in India alone.
In such a scenario, it is of utmost importance to know where India lies in the world index when it comes to crimes against women. Not only India, we need to know the situations of other countries too.
This article will probe into the top 10 countries around the world that are unsafe for women. The article will use the Women Danger Index, created by Asher and Lyric Fergusson ( journalists). The index has been created based on street safety for women, intentional homicide of women, non-partner sexual violence, intimate partner sexual violence, legal discrimination, global gender gap, gender inequality index, and violence against women attitudes. The index mainly tries to give readers an idea about where female solo travellers are unsafe.
The index is of 2024 and has listed 50 countries. This article will cover 10 of them.
