Surabhi Vani Devi to fight Legislative Council elections on TSR ticket: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has on Monday handed over a ticket Surabhi Vani Devi in the upcoming polls to the Telangana Legislative Council from the Graduates' constituency. Devi, the daughter of former Congress Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, is a well-known artist and educationist.
Devi's father, the late Narasimha Rao became the first prime minister from Southern India and was hailed as the “father of India’s economic reforms” for the liberalisation of the economy during his tenure.
TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) announced Vani Devi as the candidate for the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates' constituency. She will now contest in the upcoming MLC elections, scheduled to be held on March 14. “The sense of serving people is in our blood and runs in the family," 68-year-old Devi said last year. In her family, her brothers have a history of serving as MPs, MLAs and ministers in the state.
Also a social activist, Surabhi Vani Devi is the founder president of several educational institutions, including Sri Venkateshwara Group of Institutions. She has also founded several pharmacies, architecture, fine arts colleges and schools, and also became the chairperson of the Surabhi Educational Society.
After her graduation from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in 1986, she became a teacher. She believes in good quality art education and is presently working as the principal of the Sri Venkateswara College of Fine Arts. She has had as many as fifteen solo exhibitions in India and abroad since 1973. She has won several awards from NGOs for her works in education and arts. In 2016, the Telangana government honoured her by conferring her with the International Women’s Achievement Award.
