P.V.S. Bhavanisen Goud, Sub-Inspector of the Kaleshwaram police station of the Telangana Police, has been arrested and subsequently dismissed from duty following allegations of raping a woman head constable at gunpoint. This horrific incident, which took place on June 15 within the fringes of a guest room situated in an accommodation facility linked to an irrigation project in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, shakes the very foundation of our trust in those sworn to protect us.
The Incident
The survivor, herself a member of the law enforcement community stationed at Kaleswaram police station, courageously filed a formal complaint with senior officials following the assault. In her grievance, she detailed the horrifying ordeal, recounting how SI Sen threatened her with his service revolver before raping her and later warned her of severe consequences if she reported the incident. Further investigations revealed that SI Sen had allegedly sexually assaulted three other female police personnel.
After receiving the report, the Telangana Police conducted a thorough investigation that promptly verified the allegations against SI Sen. Taking serious note of the incident, Inspector General of Police A.V. Ranganath dismissed SI Sen from service under Article 311 of the Constitution. Following her complaint, the police seized SI Sen's service revolver and took him into custody. He has been booked under Sections 376(2)(A)(B), 324, 449, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 27 of the Arms Act.
Previous Incidents
SI Sen, also known as Goud, has a history of similar misconduct. In July 2022, a case was registered against him at Rebbena Police Station in Asifabad district for sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of helping her prepare for constable recruitment exams. Although he was suspended at that time, he was later assigned to the Kaleswaram police station, where he continued his service until the recent incident came to light.
When those entrusted with our protection become violators, it destroys public confidence in the entire system. How can we trust the police to protect our interests when some officers exploit their power to commit crimes?
