Taking a step towards ensuring women’s safety in the newly formed state of Telangana, the Chief Minister, K.Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to start a 24-hoour helpline service. The toll free number- 181, will be available for all women related issues.
The Chief Minister of the state and a recommended by a panel constituted by the government discussed the required measures for the safety of women. To avoid harassment on social media, he asked officials to explore ways in which it can be controlled, close to what China and Gulf countries are doing.
Rao also asked for CCTV cameras to be installed in public areas of the joint capital, Hyderabad, to keep an eye on eve-teasers. The officials also acquainted him with the measures currently been taken to tackle eve-teasers in the state.
CM K.Chandrashekhar Rao also asked the state police to implement 33 percent reservation for women in the police force so every police station has a women’s wing. He wished for the measures being taken for women’s safety in Hyderabad to be extended to the whole state.
According to a report by India Tribune, every district in the state will have one officer to ensure the implementation of these. The CM also said that fast-track courts will be set up in all districts for expeditious disposal of cases relating to crime against women.
