SHO Jitendra Singh said the girl's father scolded her for playing on his phone and asked her to devote more time to her studies. However, this made the girl upset, and she locked herself in a room.

Background and Circumstances

Kripanshi, a 10th-grade student, faced the ire of her father after he admonished her for spending too much time on his mobile phone. Sources indicate that the scolding was accompanied by a plea for her to prioritize her studies. Distraught by this reprimand, Kripanshi reportedly locked herself in her room

The family's concern deepened when, around 8 pm, calls for dinner went unanswered. Alarmed by the silence, family members decided to investigate, ultimately breaking open the door to discover the lifeless body of Kripanshi.

The girl's grandmother even fainted after seeing Kripanshi's body. The girl was immediately rushed to the hospital. But the doctors declared her dead.

The body underwent a post-mortem examination and was handed over to the family on Sunday morning. The SHO said a case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPc, which allows inquest reports in cases where a person has died by suicide, was killed by an animal, was in an accident, or died under suspicious conditions.

Parallel Incidents

In another incident in Indore, an 18-year-old girl died by suicide by consuming poison after failing her Class IX exam during the lockdown. Her family asked her to fill out a private form and restart her studies, but she refused. In fact, her family was also in talks about her marriage.

In the same month, a 19-year-old girl in Kota hanged herself to death. Her name was Nisha Bairwa. She used to live with her mother and 15-year-old brother. Her father had passed away 15 years ago and her mother was working as a daily wage labourer.; The reason behind the extreme step is still under investigation.

In September 2023, a Class 11 girl died by suicide after a boy rejected her. A resident of Safdarganj Arena in Lucknow, the girl allegedly jumped into the Gomti Riverfront. She left a note that read, "My dear mummy papa, I would have been alive had he not rejected me."

In another shocking incident in December 2023, 13-year-old Khushi Sharma died by jumping in front of a train in Uttar Pradesh. The reason behind the extreme step was that her mother scolded and slapped her for not wanting to go to school.

Questions that should have been Raised

Incidents are many, but the question is: why is there an increasing number of teenage suicides? Why are teenagers dying by suicide? Why aren't parents identifying the initial symptoms of suicidal ideation? Why aren't they handling them with support, love, and care? Why aren't they getting psychiatric help on time?

Parents need to develop a comfortable space in the relationship with their teenagers so that the teenagers are able to convey the raging issues of their lives. Teenage is a very tender age in which the understanding of right and wrong is still developing or, to some extent, blurred. They need proper love, guidance, and support at this age. Rather than resorting to extreme steps like suicide, teenagers must seek help.
