Taylor Swift's 'Folklore' Becomes 2020's First Album To Sell A Million Copies In The US

Taylor Swift’s latest album Folklore recently became the first album in 2020 to sell a million copies in the United States. Additionally, it has also reclaimed the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart for an eighth non-consecutive week. The album has now achieved gold and platinum status.

As per Billboard, Folklore sold approximately 57,000 copies in the US in the tracking week ending on October 22. With this, Folklore’s total album sales now amount to 1.038 million.

The Daily Mail reported that Swift restarted selling Folklore CDs at $25 per copy via her online store a week ago. This is the ninth time that one of Swift’s album has sold at least one million copies in the US. Last year, her album Lover achieved the same feat when it sold 1.09 million copies. Notably, Swift’s Lover and Folklore are the only albums released in 2019 and 2020 to sell over a million copies in the US.

Since its release on July 24, 2020, the album has received lots of love from fans and broken many records. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The album also broke the Guinness World Record for the highest one-day streams of an album on Spotify (female) after achieving over 80.6 million streams in a single day. As per EW, Folklore recently became the best-selling album of 2020 after retaining the top position on the Billboard 200 chart for six consecutive weeks.

With an average score of 89 percent on Metacritic, a popular review aggregation site, Folklore is Swift’s best-reviewed album ever. Earlier this month, the album also bagged a People's Choice Awards nomination for the Best Album of 2020.
