Tamil television actress VJ Chitra has reportedly died by suicide in Nazarethpettai, Chennai. She was 28. As per reports, police found her body in the hotel room, hanging from the ceiling fan.

Chitra was a famous television actress and host in the Tamil industry, known for playing Mullai in the hit serial Pandian Stores. She got engaged to businessman Hemanth a few months ago, reported Zoom TV.

According to reports, Chitra was shooting at EVP film city and had returned to her hotel room at around 2:30 am on Wednesday where she was staying with her fiance. In his statement to the police, Hemanth claimed that Chitra went for a bath soon after returning from the shoot. However, seeing that she didn't come out for a long time, Hemanth started knocking at the door. When she did not respond, he called the hotel staff who used a duplicate key to open the door and reportedly found the actor hanging from a ceiling fan. Reports suggest that lately, Chitra had been dealing with depression.

Speaking to TNM, a police official from Nazrathpet station said, “The hotel manager called the police helpline number 100 about 3.30 am on Wednesday. We are currently investigating the cause of her death.”
Chitra’s family is a resident of Kotturpuram in Chennai. As per TOI, she was prepping to sign in for an important role in an upcoming Tamil film. She had worked in serials like Chinna Papa Periya Papa, Saravanan Meenatchi and Darling Darling. She also played the titular role on Velunachi. VJ Chitra hosted Vijay TV’s Vasool Vettai in 2019.
