Tamil Nadu DGP Sexual Harassment Case: The Villupuram Chief Judicial Magistrate court on August 9 gave a bail order to release a former Director-General Police officer who was accused of sexual harassment by a female officer earlier this year.
Former Superintendent of Police Kannan IPS was also granted bail by the court. Kannan had also been accused in the case as the complainant woman had claimed that he allegedly intimidated her against filing a complaint.
The hearing of the sexual harassment place took place on August 9 after the Madras High Court directed it. The high court had ruled the Villupuram Chief Judicial Magistrate to conclude the case before December 20. As per reports, the Crime Branch-CID had filed a 400 pages long chargesheet with the Villupuram court on July 29.
What were the allegations against the DGP?
A female police officer had filed a complaint in February this year accusing the DGP of sexual harassment. She claimed that the officer asked her to join him in his car post-work hours in Trichy and Pudukottai districts where the then Chief Minister was touring. The officer alleged that the DGP misbehaved with her on their way back home.
Tamil Nadu DGP Sexual Harassment Case So Far:
The officer was forced and intimidated and was even allegedly threatened against filing a complaint against the senior officer. The case came to light after the Tamil Nadu government formed a six-member committee to probe the matter. As per reports, three IPS officers have been accused of stopping the survivor from filing the complaint.
Two of the IPS officers involved in the case are reportedly in the same rank as the survivor while the third one is a senior. The Crime Branch-CID had recommended action should be taken against the officers involved in the case.
