Tamil Nadu college sexual harassment: A college in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has suspended a professor after allegations of him sending inappropriate and sexually charged messages to a girl student, as per reports. An internal committee was set up by the college to probe a student's complaint of harassment against the professor. No arrests have been made in the case at present.
Identified as K Thirunavukarasu, the professor worked in the Tamil department of a college in Perur, Indian Express reports. According to a complaint by an alumnus Satheesh, the professor sent lewd texts to a female peer who was his junior in college. The girl is a final-year student.
Reports quoting sources claim the professor allegedly also sent her a shirtless photo of himself.

After alleged instances of harassment by the professor, the girl student revealed details to her peers in college. According to reports, Satheesh and his friends approached Thirunavukarasu to confront him about the harassment allegations. Thirunavukarasu allegedly admitted to the chats and threatened to kill himself if students raised the issue with the college.
"The matter was taken up with the college administration after the girl complained she was mentally disturbed. She sought stringent action against the professor," police said, as per a PTI report.
On September 25, Thirunavukarasu was given a showcause notice by the college. His response was deemed unsatisfactory and campus authorities suspended him.
This incident comes following a shocking spate of others reported from Tamil Nadu schools through the last year. After students of a renowned school in Chennai called out a professor for harassment, leading to his suspension and arrest, many other schoolgoers across the state reported similar experiences at their institutions prompting a wave of #MeToo.
