Koozhangal (Pebbles), directed by PS Vinothraj and produced and presented by Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's Rowdy Pictures banner, is India's official entry to Oscars 2022. As per reports, it is a unanimous decision. The good news was shared by producer Vignesh Shivan through his his social media handles. He wrote, "There’s a chance to hear this! “And the Oscars goes to“ Two steps away from a dream come true moment in our lives. #Pebbles #Nayanthara @PsVinothraj @thisisysr @AmudhavanKar @Rowdy_Pictures Can’t be prouder, happier & content (sic)."
Besides this, the realistic drama had also won the prestigious Tiger Award at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam this year. The movie also stars Chellapandi and Karuththadaiyaan in lead roles.

Koozhangal's story
The film Koozhangal explores the relationship between a drunkard father and his son. His wife, tired of her abusive husband's behaviour, goes back to her parent's house. The movie shows how the father-daughter duo mends the relationship to ensure that the woman reconciles with her husband.
Besides Koozhangal, 13 other films were shortlisted for this year's India's official entry to the Oscars 2022. The committee that shortlists films for Oscars is Film Federation of India. The Academy Awards for 2021 will be held on March 27, 2022 in Los Angeles.

Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Jallikattu, Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, Rima Das’s Village Rockstars, Amit Masurkar’s Newton, Vetri Maaran’s Visaaranai, Chaitanya Tamhane’s Court and Geethu Mohandas’s Liar’s Dice are the various films that have been sent to the Oscars in the past decade. The Oscars invites entries in all languages. Non-English content fights for a position in the Foreign Language Film category.
