Tahira Kashyap Backs Rhea Chakraborty In Her "Smash The Patriarchy" Post On Instagram

Tahira Kashyap wrote an open letter calling out patriarchy and extending her support to actor Rhea Chakraborty In her open letter, Kashyap shared her experience of fighting the social battle against patriarchy in everyday life. She also used the phrase "smash the patriarchy", which first appeared on a black T-shirt worn by Rhea this week while visiting the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office. Post the visit, Chakraborty was arrested in a drug probe linked to Sushant Singh Rajput's death. The text on her t-shirt read: "Roses are red, violets are blue, let's smash the patriarchy, me and you."

Sharing the same, Kashyap said she is "jolted by this new wave of anger against patriarchy" after Rhea's arrest and the online protest against it.

Tahira Kashyap writes on Inequity at home

Sharing her personal "patriarchal" experiences, the cancer survivor and author of The 12 Commandments Of Being A Woman, Kashyap wrote, “And so in the last week when I had my usual share of experiences – the usual experiences that happen to every woman, every single day – I lost my poise."

The theatre director, who is currently living in her hometown Chandigarh with her husband Ayushmann Khurrana, also shared a recent incident at home where her relative made a snide remark saying "Beta, you should look after your husband, feed him more greens." A "red-hot with anger" Kashyap then shot back and told him "actually he is making me a salad tonight, I'll ask him to make an extra serving for himself."

She added, “I was tempted to crush his toes as I made the speech, but held myself back and simply stomped out of the living room. After all, who wants to deal with name-calling? I mean with ‘vishkanya’, ‘gold digger’ and ‘Bengali women’ doing the rounds I don’t want ‘khoon ki piyaasi’, ‘toes crushing’ ‘Punjabi women’ to start another wave.”

Kashyap further wrote that there is something drastically wrong with the general outlook towards women. "The expectations are unreal. Keeping quiet, enduring is unreal."

She ended her note saying, “I can’t begin to fathom (but don’t want to ignore) what must be happening to the rest of us across different strata of the same patriarchal society.”
