After a special NDPS court granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty's brother Showik on 2 December, actress Taapsee Pannu came out in support of the family. On Wednesday, she tweeted "Scarred a family for life," after Showik got out of jail after three months. The court had observed that the charge of "illicit drugs" financing does not apply to Showik in the drug case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) which was linked to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. He was arrested in September this year.
Pannu further wrote, "Karma isn't too far away from those who made a foul cry for justice in the name of personal vendetta."

The Thappad actor had supported Rhea and said, "Every woman who is with a relatively more successful man is NOT a ‘gold digger’ and for the rest, truth and investigating agencies will do their job. One step at a time."
She was reportedly referring to Rhea being called a "gold digger" on various social media platforms. Pannu had also stood against the alleged media trial of Rhea. “I didn’t know Sushant on a personal level nor do I know Rhea but what I know is, it only takes to be a human to understand how wrong it is to overtake judiciary to convict someone who isn’t proven guilty. Trust the law of the land for your sanity and the deceased’s sanctity,” she had tweeted at the time when Rhea was arrested in September.
About the case
A complaint was lodged by Rajput’s father KK Singh in Patna, alleging that Rhea Chakraborty and her family were responsible for his son’s death. Following which, her name also popped up in the drug probe carried out by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and she was in jail for almost a month. She was released on a bail on October 7. Rhea on the other hand had accused Rajput’s sisters of giving him medicines without a prescription, days before his death by suicide.
Pannu was last seen on the big screen in Anubhav Sinha”s Thappad, which released in February 2020. The film that triggered a conversation on domestic violence, bagged two nominations at the 14th Asian Film Awards. Her next film Rashmi Rocket is expected to release next year.
